In the beginnings of books I generally get an image in my head of what the character is like, only for that to change drastically as I realize what they're *really* like.

Good luck with the challenge!

Dianna Fielding
Sociologyfornerds.comAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04518445492638481490noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8114856197586492880.post-1690956069623060872012-04-10T13:31:45.250-07:002012-04-10T13:31:45.250-07:00Hey Magic27. Chariots of Fire too. And everyone loves Up. :) You should definitely read Harry Potter at least once. It's going to be one of the classics one day, for our generation. Don't want to miss out. Anyhow, thanks for checking out my blog! Some Screaming Fangirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00951610148436237697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8114856197586492880.post-79710723764486564972012-04-09T20:07:59.731-07:002012-04-09T20:07:59.731-07:00At the risk of sounding old-fashioned and a total ...At the risk of sounding old-fashioned and a total cliché, my favourite book opening remains Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca: "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again". I have loved that book since the first time I read it, many, many years ago when I was a teenager. I just love the premise of the narrator being an almost invisible person - we never even learn her name! And the "heroine" is a ghost!
Unfortunately (I guess?), I've never read Harry Potter (and have no inclination to do so) or seen the films, so I can't comment on that.
For a favourite film opening, I love the opening to the 1981 (?) classic, "Chariots of Fire", but that's mainly because - despite the on-screen indication to the contrary - it was filmed in St Andrews in Scotland, where I was a student (much later). In terms of plot/characterisation etc., I think the opening sequence of "Up" is brilliant - unexpected, unbelievably moving, totally engaging (yes, it's a cartoon. But I only seem to see cartoons at the cinema nowadays, that's what having kids does to you. Even so, "Up" is a wonderful film and I'd heartily recommend it to anyone).Magic27https://www.blogger.com/profile/08701211538213404730noreply@blogger.com
